Jean Vollet was born in Montayral, France on June 29, 1935. He became a respected artist, known for his Pointillist and Impressionist paintings of French landscapes.
He studied at the École d’Arts Graphiques in Bordeaux, where he obtained a degree in lithography, then moved to Paris in 1962. There he devoted his time entirely to paintings and began to display his work in 1964 at the Salon des Indépendants.
His painting style is associated with impressionism and pointillism. He is known for landscapes, townscapes, use of vibrant colour, and atmospheric effects like luminous mist. His technique was precise and disciplined, but created visions of almost dream-like quality. His impressionist use of colour often imbue his works with a gentle glow of positivity. Influenced by the likes of Seurat, Renoir and Pissaro, he pursued his own style and adapted it over a long and successful career.
His works have been shown in glamourous exhibitions in cities including Paris, New York, Beverly Hills and Cannes. Vollet died in 2015, leaving a rich legacy of work that captures the beauty of the regions in which he worked.

This is an original oil on canvas by French artist Jean Vollet, painted around 1970 and signed by the artist in the lower right section. The work depicts the River Eure in the Old Quarter of Chartres, France, a scene full of historic character and charm.
In the foreground, the view is anchored by the Rue des 3 Moulins bridge, with its rustic railings crossing the flowing river. Further back, the stone Pont Bouju adds depth to the composition, connecting the historic buildings that line the waterfront. Rows of traditional French houses, with steep rooftops and shuttered windows, rise in soft pastel tones, their reflections shimmering on the water’s surface. Autumn trees frame the scene, painted in a vibrant impressionistic style with glowing shades of ochre, orange, and green beneath a radiant, textured sky.
Jean Vollet’s masterful handling of colour and light captures both the atmosphere of Chartres’ riverfront and the timeless beauty of its architectural heritage. This piece is not only an exquisite example of Vollet’s artistry but also a highly evocative representation of the River Eure, Rue des 3 Moulins, and Pont Bouju in Chartres, making it a standout work for collectors of French art and Impressionist-inspired landscapes.
