Sold by Big Sky Fine Art; this original oil painting by Julia Gertrude Cubley dated 1891.
The painting is presented and supplied in its original frame behind glass.

Julia Gertrude Palmer married the artist Henry Hadfield Cubley in 1886. They lived in Matlock Bath, Derbyshire and had two daughters. Her husband earned a living as an artist, but Julia was an accomplished artist in her own right and exhibited between 1887 and 1903 as Gertrude Cubley.

This original oil on board shows High Tor in the Derwent Valley of Derbyshire in 1891. Beneath the famous limestone crag, we see the wide Derwent River with a figure fly fishing. It is autumn and the many trees that line the riverbanks have leaves of golds and russets. The sky is a mix of pale pinks, creams and blues. The trees are reflected in the waters, giving a calm effect.
